The Medicine Wheel is a teaching/learning framework that has widespread use in indigenous communities, for use in instructing intercultural communication. Following the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, one of the required actions for reconciliation was to include intercultural competencies and the incorporation of Indigenous ways of knowing and learning. The Medicine Wheel is one framework that can decolonize and Indigenize education, and therefore works towards finding solutions to the problems created by the oppressive legacy of Indian Residential Schools.
The Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework represents the Government of Canada and Indigenous peoples’ work to co-develop a transformative Indigenous framework.
