Moe the Mouse® Speech and Language Development Program

The Moe the Mouse® Speech and Language Development Program consists of two main components:

  • Moe the Mouse® Curriculum Box
  • Making the Most of Moe: A Workshop for Parents and Early Childhood Educators

Moe the Mouse® Curriculum Box is an innovative early speech and language resource that uses Indigenous toys and stories to enhance language development in children ages 3–5. Activities and materials in the curriculum box help parents and educators provide opportunities for children to practise language skills in a natural setting. Doing these activities helps children develop:

  • Social language use
  • Comprehension of spoken words
  • Vocabulary
  • Discrimination of speech sounds
  • Ability to pronounce speech sounds
  • Knowledge of preposition words
  • Ability to express feelings and ideas

Making the Most of Moe: A Workshop for Parents and Early Childhood Educators is owned and was developed by Anne Gardner and Margaret Chesterman for BCACCS. Workshops are scheduled by BCACCS and presented throughout BC. They are facilitated by either Anne or Margaret. Workshops are approximately five hours long, and are designed for early childhood educators, parents, and others involved with young children. Audio-visual and printed materials are used to train people how to use the Moe the Mouse® Speech and Language Curriculum Box.

Moe the Mouse® is also available as a felt story. Meet felt versions of Moe and his 15 animal friends!
